Housecall Pro vs DispatchMind: Payments, AI, Cancel
If you want a polished app with payroll, instant payouts and financing from a big brand, Housecall Pro is a fair choice. If you want card payments landing in your own Stripe account, a published price for the AI on your phone, and a cancel button you can press yourself, pick DispatchMind. Those three things, plus how many people each plan covers, are where the two really differ.
The short version
Housecall Pro is one of the best-known apps in home services, with a 4.7 on Capterra from more than 2,700 reviews by its own count. DispatchMind is a job-management platform with the jobs board, dispatch, invoices, phone and an AI dispatcher named Nellie in one app, priced on the website and sold month to month.
Here's how they compare as of October 2026. Check Housecall Pro's site and terms for current details.

Your money: their processor vs. your Stripe
Housecall Pro processes your card payments. Its rates start "as low as 2.59%" for cards and 1% for ACH, and Instapay gets you paid fast for another 1%. Instant payouts are a real strength. If cash flow is tight, getting paid the same day matters.
The flip side: Housecall Pro's terms allow it to hold reserves, and it charges a $25 fee on chargebacks. Some Trustpilot reviewers describe money being held, one saying it "took over two thousand out of my account." Reviews are one side of a story, but it's worth knowing the processor controls the timing.
With DispatchMind, card payments go through your own Stripe account. The money goes to your Stripe, not held by DispatchMind. You set it up the way you want: tips, and pay-over-time with Affirm, Klarna or Afterpay if you turn them on in Stripe. If you ever leave, your payment history stays in your Stripe.
AI on the phone: unpublished price vs. $149
Housecall Pro sells AI phone answering separately and doesn't publish the price. You find out on a sales call.
Nellie is $149 a month on any DispatchMind plan and free during the trial. She answers your DispatchMind Phone number 24/7, books and moves visits right in the real schedule, picks the tech, and answers questions about jobs and money in plain English. She greets callers in your language and switches to theirs.
Users: what each plan covers
Housecall Pro's Basic is $79 for 1 user, Essentials $189 for 5 and Max $329 for 8, with extra users on Max at $35. DispatchMind's Starter is $79 for 2 office logins, Team $179 for 5, Pro $299 for 10 and Business $499 for 20. Extra office logins are $29 and tech app logins are $15.
Quick example: 5 office people and 5 techs. On Housecall Pro that's 10 users, so Max at $329 plus 2 extra users at $35 is $399. On DispatchMind it's Team at $179 plus 5 tech logins at $15, which is $254. Pay Housecall Pro yearly and its prices drop ($299 for Max), and DispatchMind yearly gives 2 months free, so run your own numbers. Features don't line up one for one either: DispatchMind's commissions and tech pay start on Pro.
Support and cancelling
Housecall Pro has a 2.9 on Trustpilot (689 reviews). The complaints repeat: bugs, interface changes, double charges, and support that's hard to reach. One reviewer wrote, "No support unless you want to speak with AI." Some Capterra reviews mention sales calls. There's also an open TCPA lawsuit about calls and texts, tracked by Consumer Action.
Cancelling takes a conversation. Per Housecall Pro's help center (07/08/2026), you open the in-app chat, ask to cancel, and its billing team reaches out in 1 to 3 business days, with calls from an 858 area code. It can't fully process the cancel until a team member speaks with the account owner. Its terms also list cancellations@housecallpro.com, say subscriptions auto-renew and fees aren't prorated or refunded except as stated, and say a 30-day money-back guarantee applies only if it was offered when you signed up.
On DispatchMind the owner cancels from Plan and billing inside the app. No call. And every company gets the 30-day money-back guarantee on its first paid charge.
What Housecall Pro does well
- A polished, well-known app with a big user base.
- Payroll built in.
- Instant payouts with Instapay.
- Customer financing.
If those matter more to you than who holds your money or how you cancel, Housecall Pro is a reasonable pick.
Who should pick Housecall Pro
- You want payroll inside your field service app.
- You need same-day payouts and are fine paying for them.
- You're a small team on Basic or Essentials and the app feels right.
Who should pick DispatchMind
- You want your card money in your own Stripe account.
- You want the AI phone price published before you buy, and an AI that dispatches.
- You have techs and want them on $15 app logins with access levels you set.
- You want to cancel yourself, any month, with no call.
How to switch from Housecall Pro
- Export your customers (Customers > Actions > Export), your price book (Settings > Price Book > Export) and your payments report (Reporting > Reports > Payments).
- Start a DispatchMind trial and import your CSV. Statuses line up, open balances come over, canceled jobs stay behind, and re-running a file never doubles anything. See moving your data in.
- Port your Voice numbers before you cancel. The new carrier starts the port and it takes about 1 to 3 weeks. Get the account number and PIN from Housecall Pro's Voice team. Custom SMS numbers can't be ported.
- Settle any reserves and download your payout records.
- Run both for a couple of weeks, then ask to cancel in writing and keep the confirmation.
